Strategic Initiative:
Providing information on tick-borne diseases and prevention
Once considered a seasonal nuisance, tick bites and associated diseases have become a year-round threat, with life-altering or even life-threatening consequences. This in part results from the proliferation of three species: deer ticks, lone star ticks, and american dog ticks. A recent addition to tick-borne diseases is the rare Powassan virus, discovered in 2025 on Martha’s Vineyard - a disease that can be transmitted quickly, for which there is currently no treatment. We provide a place to get information on prevention and treatment.
